Realistic Video Based Assistive Living

A research project in collaboration with Universiti Malaya (UM) and funded by UM Research Collaborative Grant Scheme entitled Realistic Video Based Assistive Living is looking for one postgraduate research officer and one postdoctoral research fellow to work on the following sub-projects:

  1. Security and robustness of video – from transmission to storage in the cloud
    In this project, we aim to: (a) construct a theoretical model to capture the robustness of video with respect to well-known restrictions and adverse attacks by hostile parties; (b) propose a new robust video encryption algorithm based on the notion of provable security, and; (c) prove the robustness of our designed algorithms based on extensive experiments, and based on the notion of provable security.
  2. Visual based ambient assistive living - from passive monitoring to active directing
    The main objectives are to: (a) develop novel computer vision techniques in order to recognize the eating and drinking hand postures of physically-challenged individuals such as the elderly; (b) propose correct hand postures through example videos, and; (c) design privacy-preserving extensions of the assistive living techniques so that observed individuals can maintain their dignity

Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Achievements Posted: 08 December 2009; Category: Achievement

UMP has added fourteen new medals to its collection of awards when our researchers brought home three golds, four silvers and seven bronzes from the 19th Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX '08). The three-day exhibition, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 9 to 11 May 2008, attracted the participation of about 400 hundred exhibitors from around the world. More than 600 exhibits were put on display for public viewing. UMP showcased 15 projects at the exhibition and all but one of them received awards from the event organizer, the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS).

The setting up of the Institute of Research Management and Consultancy (Institut Pengurusan Penyelidikan dan Perundingan, IPPP) was agreed by the University Senate on 23rd August 2000 and approved by the University Board of Directors on 11th October 2000. IPPP functions as a ‘one-stop’ centre to manage all research related activities in the University of Malaya. The Institute’s involve primarily planning, organizing, promoting, monitoring and evaluating research conducted by researchers in the University. It also provides services in the transfer of technology and commercialization of research outputs and products including providing consultancy services to the public and private sectors. The Institute is intended to realize the University’s desire to be a world class research university.
