UCSI University

Introduction

Built on the principles of audacity, perseverance, integrity and excellence, UCSI University is a leading institution of higher learning with campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu and Sarawak, Malaysia.

A Track Record of Excellence

As one of Malaysia’s first private universities, UCSI University has long impacted the national higher education landscape and the University continues to do so with its wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

With more than 11,000 students from 80 different countries, UCSI University has also made its mark in the global education scene. Not only do its students gain a world-class education, they also gain a global experience in a campus that is a melting pot of diversity.

Building on its domestic standing as a preferred and trusted education provider, the University is also expanding its sphere of influence. Tie-ups with foreign universities, research institutes and leading multinational companies are constantly established, enhancing opportunities for students and staff in the areas of research and development, mobility programmes and career opportunities, among others.
UCSI University’s strong track record of university-industry engagement has attracted attention from the powers that be and the University is entrusted to reshape Malaysia’s tourism and hospitality industry through education. By leading the Malaysian Centre of Tourism and Hospitality Education – a consortium of Malaysia’s foremost education institutions – that endeavours to equip at least 50% of the industry’s workforce with a diploma or a degree by 2020, UCSI University stands in the nation’s service and that of the global community.

A Praxis University™

At the core of UCSI University’s success is its praxis™ model. The praxis™ approach advocates the application of theory to practice. Above all, this approach seeks to connect students to today's world of end-to-end responsibility, not insulate them from it – because we believe that good work should always be practised, not said.

Strong University-Industry Engagement

Each university has a unique value-proposition. For some it is the allure of history. For others, notable achievements in recent times. At UCSI University, that reason to believe is anchored in a 27-year recod of industrial excellence that is second to none.

Not many know this but UCSI is actually the first university in South East Asia to implement a mandatory ruling that requires students to undergo Co-Operative Education Placement Programme (Co-Op) at the end of each academic year. The rationale: To equip students with a strong grasp of fundamental workplace practices and the underlying assumptions that make them work. With greater access to higher education, competition in the workforce would only intensify and UCSI wanted its graduates to hit the ground running.

This led to the launch of UCSI’s Co-Op Placement Programme – better known as Co-Op – in 2004 that saw the University collaborating with multinational and local companies in an unprecedented manner. Partnering with the right organisations was vital and UCSI staff frequently visited companies in the early days to assess whether they would be a good fit. These tie-up secured invaluable Co-Op Placement opportunities for students while employers were able to identify potential talents who could take their organisations forward.

Today, the Co-Op programme has won much praise from both students and employers alike. In 2012  99.28% of employers indicated their satisfaction with their Co-Op students’ performance and 99.15% of students indicated their satisfaction for their Co-Op placements.
